The introduction of cadet and student self-government at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs is the realization of the rights of higher education students, the formation of their sense of responsibility, and the ability to solve social, economic, cultural, and educational problems.

At the same time, cadet and student self-government is an effective form of self-education that ensures the development of skills of a future organizer and leader. The cadet-student Parliament participates in the management of the university in matters of education, science, life, etc. In its activities, it is guided by the Constitution of Ukraine, the Laws of Ukraine "On Higher Education" and "On the National Police", regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the University Statute.

The main tasks of the cadet-student Parliament are:

• ensuring the protection of the rights and interests of higher education students by establishing a permanent dialogue between representatives of the cadet and student self-government with academic staff and university management;
• participation in the educational, scientific, creative activities of cadets, students and masters;
• promoting the creation of various cadet and student clubs, societies, associations and coordinating their activities;
• promotion of healthy lifestyles, safe behavior, prevention and detection of offenses committed by higher education students;
• participation in educational work with cadets and students;
• fostering patriotism, promoting the formation of moral and ethical standards among higher education students;
• promoting the organization of leisure and recreation of higher education students;
• сharity work.
