The Department of Criminal Law and Criminology as an independent structural unit was established in 2019 due to the division of the Department of Criminal Law Disciplines of the Faculty № 6. The Department is headed by Doctor of Law, Associate Professor Mykola Leonidovych Pakhnin.

Lecturers of the Department carry out research in the following scientific areas:

  • Criminal protection of intellectual property rights;
  • Criminal-legal counteraction to terrorism;
  • Criminal and legal support of property protection in Ukraine;
  • Conceptual principles of the relationship between the rights and responsibilities of the state and the individual in criminal proceedings;
  • Features of qualification of corruption crimes;
  • Improving criminal law;
  • Criminal and legal protection of land resources in Ukraine.

In the 2024/2025 academic year, the academic staff of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology teaches 21 academic disciplines.

At the first (bachelor's) level of higher education, the mandatory components of the educational program include the following disciplines: "Criminal Law, Criminal Executive Law, Criminology. The following disciplines are optional components of the educational program: "Qualification of Criminal Offenses Against Public Safety and Public Order", "Qualification of Criminal Offenses in the Sphere of Official Activity", "Criminal Law Policy of Combating Crime", "Fundamentals of Criminal Law".

At the second (master's) level of higher education, the mandatory components of the educational program include the following disciplines: "Actual Problems of Application of Criminal Law", "Analysis and Forecasting of Crime", "International Criminal Law", "Modern Problems of Criminal Law". The elective components of the educational program are the following disciplines: "Qualification of Corruption Criminal Offenses", "Criminal Law Qualification", "Peculiarities of Qualification of Economic Criminal Offenses", "Peculiarities of Qualification of Corruption Criminal Offenses".

At the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education, the mandatory components of the educational program include the following disciplines: "Directions of development of criminal law science", "Modern doctrines of criminal law", "Modern criminological doctrines". The elective components of the educational program are the following disciplines: "Directions of Development of Criminology Science", "Directions of Development of Criminal Executive Law Science", "Modern Doctrines of Criminal Executive Law".
