Ukraine has been celebrating the Day of Dignity and Freedom since 2014. All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conference “National liberation struggle and the formation and preservation of statehood of Ukraine”, organized by the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines of the Faculty No.6 of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affair and the Department of Ukrainian Studies of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, was held on November 19-20, 2020 to honor this holiday. The organizing committee included Volodymyr Hrechenko, Head of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines of the Faculty No.6 of KhNUIA, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, Vitalii Zaborovskyi, Assistant Professor of the same department, Candidate of Historical Sciences, and Nataliia Kobylko, Senior Lecturer of the Department, Candidate of Philological Sciences. Because of general epidemiological situation, the event was held online on the Meet platform.

The broad topics of the conference brought together literary critics, linguists, historians, philosophers, lawyers, art historians and revealed the issues of the historical path of formation of Ukraine's independence of national revival in literature and culture; the role of language in the process of state creation; as well as philosophical and political aspects of the struggle of our state for its national independence. The organizing committee received more than 70 applications from different parts of Ukraine: Kharkiv, Kremenchuk, Mariupol, Lysychansk, Kostiantynivka. In addition to representatives of educational institutions, the conference was attended by the Public organization “Youth League of Future Police Officers” and Kostiantynivka police station of Bakhmut police department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Donetsk region.

Active participants of the event were lecturers and students of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. Under the supervision of Professor Volodymyr Hrechenko reports were made by A. Hrebeniuk on “Psychology of the Zaporozhian Cossack of the XVI-XVII centuries” and D. Medianyk on “Nestor Makhno: today’s view from Huliaipole”. Assistant Professor Vitalii Zaborovskyi supervised the following scientific works: Yu. Kalchenko “Ivan Bohun is an outstanding Cossack colonel”, V. Karakutsia “Dissident Movement in Ukraine”, M. Saltykova “The figure of B. Khmelnytskyi and his role in the liberation war”, V. Semonova “The death penalty in Sich through the prism of Cossack customary law”, O. Sereda “Outstanding Ukrainian engineers and designers of the XX century”, K. Khimich “The influence of the “Sixtiers” on the development of society”, D. Yaroshenko “Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society”, R. Bolshov “Les Kurbas is a genius of directing with a bullet in his heart”, N. Yizhachenko “The tragedy of Ukrainian culture during Stalinism”, V. Mikula “Development of culture in Ukraine in the 1920s”, M. Stukalova “Reflection of the war in eastern Ukrainian art”, V. Uvarenko “Koliivshchyna as an attempt of national-state restoration”, N. Khodieiev “Totalitarianism as a phenomenon of the XX century”. Assistant Professor Oleksandra Holovko supervised the preparation of reports by T. Usenko “State symbols of Ukraine and its historical origin” and Yu. Shapoval “National and cultural revival of Ukraine in the late twentieth - early twenty-first century”.

Under the supervision of Senior Lecturer Nataliia Kobylko, their scientific research presented M. Horoshko “A new stage in the development of Ukrainian cinema”, A. Hrebeniuk ““Okean Elzy” as a Ukrainian-speaking group”, M. Kovalova “Feminist movement in Ukraine and its image in the works of Olha Kobylianska”, D. Medianyk “Serhii Ponomarenko 's entry into the Ukrainian literary process” and A. Bohdan “The first Ukrainian fantasy film “The Stronghold”: is there anything left of the original story?”.

Within the scientific circle of the Department, headed by Senior Lecturer Mykhailo Ovchynnykov, students prepared abstracts on topical linguistic issues: Ye. Dolzhenko “Legal vocabulary in the written monuments of Kievan Rus”, V. Karakutsia “Gender-specific job titles as a means of gender tolerance”, M. Pavlov “Ukrainian youth slang as a linguistic phenomenon”, O. Sereda “Development of Ukrainian vocabulary in the XX century”, M. Stukalova “Foreign language borrowings in Ukrainian legal terminology at the present stage”, V. Uvareno “Communicative features of the speech culture of a lawyer”, N. Khodieiev “The use of non-verbal means in the process of intercultural communication”.

The speakers' reports were accompanied by a lively discussion, which showed the importance of the topic of the event. According to the results of the conference, each participant received a certificate, program and Collection of materials. We thank all the speakers and their supervisors, as well as the libraries of KhNUIA and KNURE for their help in organizing an exhibition dedicated to the national liberation struggle of Ukraine.
