On the eve of the International Native Language Day, which is celebrated annually on February 21, Sumy branch of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs held a round table "Linguistic competence of the National Police" for future law enforcement officers with the participation of practical units of the National Police.

The event was attended by the representatives of Sumy Region Patrol Police Department: Patrol Police Senior Inspector on Special Assignments of the Traffic Safety Department, Major Ihor Bilovol, Senior Police Lieutenant Pavlo Khomenko, Police Captain Oleksandr Tsynka, Police Lieutenant Victoria Gutko, Police Lieutenant Andrii Bashtovyi, Head of the Department of Legal Disciplines of Sumy Branch Oksana Panasyuk.
The moderator of the event, Valentyna Vasylenko, Professor of the Department of Humanities of Sumy Branch, made a presentation, emphasizing that language skills are one of the main components of police training, which increases the efficiency of his activities, helps to better navigate in direct business contacts. The language of law is a historical phenomenon, reflects the general state of society and at the same time depends on its level of development and legal system.
In the process of communication the participants of the round table innovatively highlighted the problem of modern interpretation of language and communication competence of the police as the ability of law enforcement officers to establish contact with victims and offenders, willingness to identify causes and motivations of offenders, personal conflict resolution and security and self-control in the process of interaction with offenders.
The exchange of views was fruitful and substantive, so the plans are to continue holding such round tables with the participation of practitioners of the National Police.
