Representatives of the Field Office of the EUAM in Kharkiv held a seminar “Child-Friendly Justice. Rooms for Interviewing Children and Other Vulnerable Groups”  for applicants for higher education, cadets, students and master's students of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.

The main speakers of the event were Crista Granroth, Trainer / Adviser on Criminal Investigations of the Kharkiv Regional Office of the EUAM, Maksym Levytskyi, Training Officer of the Regional Office of the EUAM in Kharkiv and Tetiana Matiushkova, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminalistics, Forensic Science and Pre-Medical Training of the Faculty №1.

The purpose of the seminars was to raise the level of awareness of applicants for higher education of KhNUIA about the basic methods of questioning/ interrogating juveniles including use of specially equipped rooms.

The seminar also addressed the issue of combating gender-based and domestic violence, given the launch of the annual international campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”, which began on November 25, on the International Day for  Elimination of Violence against Women, and will last till December 10, Human Rights Day.

Crista Granroth presented the experience of Finland, acquainted with the requirements for police training, which can be admitted to the interrogation of children, training of interviewers, etc.

Tetiana Matiushkova spoke about the current state of child-friendly justice in Ukraine in terms of criminal procedure legislation, tactical recommendations, projects to amend the legislation in order to comply with the best European practices in the world.

During the event, participants took part in discussions and asked the speaker about the specifics of  questioning/ interrogating juveniles, techniques and means which can be used for effective interviews.
