The introduction of cadet and student self-government in Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs is the realization of the rights of students in higher education, the development of their sense of responsibility and the ability to solve social, economic and cultural-educational problems.

At the same time cadet and student self-government is an effective form of self-education that ensures the development of skills of the future organizer and leader. The Cadet and Student Parliament participate in the management of the university regarding study, science, everyday life, etc. In its activity it is governed by the Constitution of Ukraine, laws of Ukraine “On Higher Education”, “On the National Police”, laws and regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the University Charter.

The main tasks of the Cadet and Student Parliament are:

• Protection of the rights and interests of applicants for higher education through the steady dialogue between representatives of student and cadet self-government and scientific and pedagogical staff and university management;
• Participation in the educational, scientific and creative activities of cadets, students and masters;
• Promotion to the establishment of various cadet and student circles, unions and associations and coordination their activities;
• Promotion of healthy lifestyles, safe behavior, prevention of offences by those who apply for higher education;
• Participation in educational work with cadets and students;
• Patriotic education and promotion of moral and ethical standards among those who apply for higher education;
• Promotion in organization of rest and recreation activities for those who apply for higher education;
• Charity work.
