The Library of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs was founded in 1992 as part of Kharkiv Institute of Internal Affairs, which was created on the basis of the Interregional School for Training of Junior and Middle Management Staff of Kharkiv Regional Police (1955). The name of the library changed in accordance with the changes in the name of the educational institution. In 1999, the library was recognized as the leading library among the libraries of educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Since the early 2000s, the library has been acquiring new tasks, the main of which is to transform it into a powerful information and educational center with developed electronic resources and services to support the educational process and research activities of the university.

The main Library (Kharkiv) occupies a building with an area of 1371 m3, provides access to information resources to more than 7 thousand users in 5 reading rooms and 3 subscription offices. Libraries operate at the training bases in Vinnytsia and Kamianets-Podilskyi.

All libraries use the UnieLibrary automated library information system.

Due to the participation in the project “Single Reader Card”, the university community (teachers, researchers, cadets, students, adjuncts, masters) is provided with access to both printed collections and electronic resources of libraries of all higher education institutions of Kharkiv, including subscription databases.

The scientific Library of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs cooperates with the libraries of the departmental network and leading higher education institutions of Ukraine.

• registration to the library
• informing about the availability of literature in the library's collections
• assistance in preparing lists on specific topics
• providing temporary use of publications from the library's collections at the request of users
• providing access to electronic resources
• making thematic, bibliographic and factual references
• determination of UDC indices
• providing access to the Internet via Wi-Fi
• ordering the necessary publications by interlibrary loan (ILL) in the absence of them in the library fund of the KhNUIA
• excursions around the library
• acquaintance with the information of publishers and suppliers (book trade organizations) for ordering books and subscribing to magazines and newspapers
• providing workstations for working with electronic resources in the library
• preparation of book exhibitions, including for university events
• holding cultural events (to support the educational activities of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs)
• teaching methods of information retrieval in traditional and automated information and library systems
• conducting library and bibliographic classes for freshmen to develop skills of information and bibliographic culture and academic integrity

Individual counseling:

• assistance in finding and selecting sources of information
• consultations on the design of bibliographic descriptions in the list of term papers, diploma and research papers
•  consultations on working with scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science
• consultations on creating a researcher's profile in the Google Academy system, ORCID digital author identifier, KhNUIAIR repository, etc.
• monitoring of bibliometric indicators of a researcher / department
