The KhNUIA library was founded in 1992 as part of the Kharkiv Institute of Internal Affairs, established on the basis of the Interregional School of Training of the Junior and Middle Commanding Staff of the Internal Affairs Department of Kharkiv Region (1955 р). The name of the library was changing in accordance with changes in the name of the educational establishment. In 1999 it was recognized as the leading library among the libraries of higher educational establishments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
THE CURRENT STATE: the general library occupies a building with an area of 1300 sq.m., provides access to information resources for 7.5 thousand users in 5 reading rooms and 3 subscriptions.

The general library works on the basis of the automated information library system UnieLibrary.
INFORMATION RESOURCES: book collection - more than 400 thousand copies (including dissertations, rare editions and literature in foreign languages), stock of periodicals, electronic catalog of about 380 thousand bibliographic records, electronic library - more than 40 thousand full text electronic sources, open access repository http://dspace.univd.edu.ua/xmlui/ - more than 10,000 scientific publications of the authors of KhNUIA, access to the resources of the information and legal system of Ukraine "League: Law", Internet, Wi-Fi.
Access to scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science, e-books on the SCIENCEDIRECT and SPRINGER platforms (2017) is provided.
The library portal (http://lib.univd.edu.ua/) is a key element of the information and educational space of the University and the only point of access to electronic resources and services of the general library.
In order to fulfill information requests for profile documents that are not in the library stock, interlibrary loan services are offered.
The general library of KhNUIA is a participant of the project "Single reader's card", thanks to which the University community (lecturers, scientists, cadets, students, adjuncts) were provided with the access to both printed collection and electronic resources of libraries of all universities in Kharkiv, including subscription databases.
The library cooperates with the libraries of the departmental network and leading higher education institutions of Ukraine.
The work of the University library is provided by 22 employees, all of them are certified specialists.
