The modern Department of Sociology and Psychology of the Faculty No. 6 was founded in May 2013 on the basis of two departments of the Institute of Law and Mass Communications - the Department of General and Practical Psychology and the Department of Sociology and Mass Communications. The Department provides educational process in the specialty 053 "Psychology" of the first and second levels of education and is a graduating department for bachelors and masters of this specialty. The scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department conducts educational, methodological, scientific and research activities in 77 academic disciplines. The Department has 6 Doctors and 13 Candidates of Sciences.

Research interests of the Department:

• issues of interaction between psychology and law from the standpoint of such disciplines as legal, social, pedagogical, age psychology, criminology, sociology, linguistics, etc;
• topical psychological issues of crime and delinquency prevention;
• problems of psychological rehabilitation of combatants;
• topical psychological, pedagogical and ethical aspects of improving law enforcement in a broad socio-cultural context;
• increasing the effectiveness of psychological technologies in legal practice;
• psychology of the personality of a police officer;
• problems of offenders' readaptation;
• illegal behavior of minors: current psychological problems;
• psychological aspects of crime detection and investigation;
• psychological aspects of conducting psychophysiological research using polygraphic devices.
