The Head of the Department is Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Lohvynenko Ihor Albertovych

The Department of Theory and History of State and Law is a basic structural unit of the University that conducts educational, methodological, and research activities to ensure fundamental legal training of qualified specialists for the National Police of Ukraine. The main tasks of the Department are: organization and implementation of the educational process at the proper scientific and methodological levels; conducting research in the field of the department; assisting the university management, faculties and courses in organizing and conducting educational work with cadets.

The scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department provides teaching of a number of fundamental legal disciplines necessary for the formation of professional basic knowledge of future specialists of the National Police of Ukraine, namely: "Theory of State and Law", "History of State and Law of Ukraine", "History of State and Law of Foreign Countries", "History of State and Law", "Legal Comparative Studies", "Philosophy of Law".

The Department provides training of scientific and pedagogical staff and scientific and expert activities in the specialty 12.00.01 - Theory and History of State and Law; History of Political and Legal Doctrines, as well as other specialties within the limits defined for fundamental legal sciences.

The range of scientific interests of the Department's academic staff includes such issues as: topical issues of state-building, law-making and law enforcement; conceptualization of national security; the role of the National Police in ensuring the law enforcement function of the state; etc. These scientific areas of legal research are reflected in the active scientific research of the Department's employees on dissertation research for the degree of Candidate of Law (Doctor of Philosophy of Law), Doctor of Law, participation in many national and international scientific events.

The Department has a scientific club "Actual Problems of Theory and History of State and Law", which aims to provide in-depth study of the main general theoretical problems of theory and history of state and law, as well as mastering modern scientific theories. Within the framework of the scientific club, higher education students acquire public speaking skills, the ability to correctly and meaningfully formulate their own opinions, work with scientific literature, etc.

The academic staff of the Department systematically conducts educational (supervisory) work with students of the Faculty No. 1, as well as career guidance and legal education work with students of secondary schools, colleges and other educational institutions.
