HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Library of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs was founded in 1992 as part of Kharkiv Institute of Internal Affairs, which was created on the basis of the Interregional School for Training of Junior and Middle Management Staff of Kharkiv Regional Police (1955). The name of the Library changed in accordance with the changes in the name of the educational institution. In 1999, the library was recognized as the leading library among the libraries of educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Since the early 2000s, the Library has been acquiring new tasks, the main of which is to transform it into a powerful information and educational center with developed electronic resources and services to support the educational process and research activities of the university. In 2021, the name of the Library was changed to the Scientific Library.

CURRENT STATE

The Scientific Library occupies a building with an area of 1371 m3 and provides access to information resources to more than 7 thousand users in 5 reading rooms and 3 subscription rooms.

The Library structure includes 6 departments:

• acquisition and scientific processing of documents,
• scientific literature service,
• educational literature service,
• information and bibliographic,
• information and electronic resources and services,
• storage of funds.

The Scientific Library operates on the basis of the automated library and information system UnieLibrary.

The Scientific Library of KhNUIA is a participant of the project "Single Reader Card", thanks to which the university community (teachers, researchers, cadets, students, adjuncts) is provided with access to both printed collections and electronic resources of libraries of all higher education institutions of Kharkiv, including subscription databases.

The Scientific Library of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs cooperates with the libraries of the departmental network and leading higher education institutions of Ukraine.

The work of the university library is provided by 23 employees, all of whom are certified specialists.

INFORMATION RESOURCES AND SERVICES

• Book collection - more than 400 thousand copies (including dissertations, literature in foreign languages, rare editions and periodicals)
• Library portal (http://lib.univd.edu.ua/) - is a single point of access to electronic resources and services of the scientific library,
• Electronic catalog of over 405 thousand bibliographic records,
• Electronic library - about 65 thousand full-text electronic sources,
• Repository (electronic archive) - more than 18 thousand scientific works of the authors of KhNUIA (http://dspace.univd.edu.ua/xmlui/),
• Access to scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science,
• Access to full-text resources of Science Direct, Research4Life platforms,
• Internet, Wi-Fi,
• IBA - to meet information requests for specialized documents that are not in the library collection, interlibrary loan services are offered.
