The Department of Special Physical Training is a structural subdivision of the Educational and Research Institute No. 2 of KhNUIA.

The staff of the Department constantly conducts educational, methodological and scientific work, taking into account the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, and has developed a number of distance learning courses to ensure proper training of cadets and students and posted them on the distance learning server of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.
Lecturers of the Department participate in the training of patrol police inspectors, cyber police inspectors, community police officers, as well as personal security instructors for the National Police of Ukraine, and in conducting advanced training courses for police officers.
The academic staff of the Department completed an instructor seminar and received certificates as instructors; specialists in training drivers of category B vehicles, as well as advanced training courses.
Today, the Department employs lecturers with practical experience in law enforcement units. The staff of the department is constantly involved in the service of ensuring public safety and order in the city and region.
All lecturers of the Department are constantly working on the development and publication of author's teaching aids and scientific and practical recommendations in the disciplines taught at the Department.
The Department has a scientific and practical club «Special Physical Training» headed by Associate Professor of the department, Candidate of Law, Police Major Bohdan Lukin. The activity of the group is aimed at finding the most effective means and methods of achieving high results in the formation of motor-coordination skills, development of physical qualities, and concentration of attention in future police officers.
Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs is working hard to promote a healthy lifestyle, instill habits of regular sports, and involve cadets in sports sections, namely volleyball, basketball, mini-football, football, sambo wrestling, athletics, weightlifting, Thai boxing, K-1, kickboxing, and hand-to-hand combat, which are supervised by experienced professionals - lecturers of the department. A powerful sports and mass work is constantly carried out: the national teams of KhNUIA take part in all events of the KhRO SFS «Dynamo» of Ukraine, SFS «Dynamo» of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, international and competitions of various levels, constantly winning prizes.
History of the Department of Special Physical Training
Until August 2024, Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs had the Department of Tactical and Special Physical Training of the Faculty No. 3, which was established in 2019 by merging two departments: the Department of Special Physical Training, which was part of the Faculty No. 2, and the Department of Tactical and Tactical-Special Training, which was part of the Faculty No. 3.
The Department of Special Physical Training is one of the oldest at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. Its history began in 1971 after the establishment of the Interregional School for Training Junior and Middle Management Staff of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Kharkiv Regional Executive Committee.

Since March 1984, after the establishment of the Kharkiv Higher Courses of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs, physical training of cadets was carried out by the Department of Military Disciplines and Physical Training. Police colonel, USSR Master of Sports in Sambo, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor V.A. Revenko was appointed as the head of the department. Between 1990 and 1992, the Department of Military Service Disciplines and Physical Training was renamed twice: «Department of Military Service and Physical Training» and «Department of Combat and Physical Training». The department taught the following disciplines: firearms and physical training. In 1992-1994, the Department of Combat and Physical Training was headed by Police Colonel A.O. Savchenko, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor.
In 1994, the Department of Physical Training began its independent existence. The first head of the Department was Police Colonel E.V. Shalenko, Master of Sports of the USSR in Decathlon, the Deputy Head of the Department was Police Colonel Y.A. Anosov, Master of Sports of the USSR in Sambo Wrestling. In 1999, due to a significant expansion of the range of training at the University, the disciplines of firearms and physical training were again united within one academic cycle and two Departments were organized: «Special and Physical Training of 1-3 Faculties», headed by Police Colonel A.O. Savchenko, and «Special and Physical Training of 4-6 Faculties», headed by Police Colonel E.V. Shalenko until 2003. From 2003 to 2005, the Department was headed by Lieutenant Colonel O.I. Kamaiev, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Master of Sports of the USSR in Cross-Country Skiing.
Since 2005, the Department of Special Physical Training of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs has been functioning independently again. In 2005-2011, it was headed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Vadym Artemiev, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor, Honored Coach of Ukraine.
In 2007-2015, Police Colonel Viktor Kolesnikov, Master of Sports of the USSR in Triathlon, Honored Coach of Ukraine, worked as Deputy Head of the Department of Special Physical Training.
From February 2011 to May 2019, the Department of Special Physical Training was headed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Morgunov, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor, Master of Sports, Honored Coach of Ukraine.
As a result of the merger of two Departments, namely the Department of Special Physical Training of the Faculty No 2 and the Department of Tactical and Tactical-Specialized Training of the Faculty No 3, the Department of Tactical and Specialized Physical Training of the Faculty No 2 was formed, which has been headed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Morgunov since May 2019.
In 2021, due to the reorganization of KhNUIA, the Department became part of the Faculty No. 3, and was headed by Police Major Ihor Kovalev.
In 2023, the Department was headed by Police Captain Mykola Borovyk, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Master of Sports of Ukraine in Weightlifting, and participant in combat operations.
In 2024, due to organizational and staffing changes, the Department of Special Physical Training was established, which became part of the Educational and Research Institute No. 2 and is headed by Police Captain Dmytro Konstantynov, Candidate of Law, Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine in Kickboxing, National Kickboxing Judge.
The scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department consists of 12 people, of whom 3 employees have a scientific degree (3 - PhD), 1 Honored Teacher of Ukraine, 2 Honored Masters of Sports of Ukraine, 1 National Category Judge, 1 Honored Coach of Ukraine, 1 International Master of Sports of Ukraine, 1 Master of Sports of Ukraine, 1 Candidate for Master of Sports of Ukraine.
