The Institute of Postgraduate Education of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs was established on September 21, 2017 as a result of the reorganization of the Center of Postgraduate Education of KhNUIA in accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine No. 744 "On Organizational and Staff Changes in Higher Educational Institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs" dated 31.08.2017 and the Order of KhNUIA No. 508 "On Organizational and Staff Changes" dated 21.09.2018.

In its official activities, the Institute provides initial professional training of police officers, advanced training (including short-term training) and specialization of police officers in accordance with the requirements of the "Regulation on the organization of initial professional training of police officers who are first recruited to the police", approved by the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine dated 16.02.2016 No. 105 and the "Regulation on the organization of postgraduate education of the National Police", approved by the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine dated 24.12.2015 No. 1625.

The Institute's activities are carried out in two areas: postgraduate education (advanced training and specialization) and initial professional training of police officers, which is provided by the work of the relevant units:

  •  Department of Advanced Training and Specialization;
  •  Department of Initial Professional Training of Police Officers;
  •  Department of Educational and Methodological Support;
  •  Cycle of General Legal Disciplines;
  •  Cycle of Special Disciplines.

Department of Advanced Training and Specialization

Postgraduate education of police officers is carried out in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, laws of Ukraine, Decrees of the President of Ukraine and Resolutions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in accordance with the Constitution and laws of Ukraine, Acts of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, and other legislative acts of Ukraine.

The purpose of postgraduate education is to meet the individual needs of police officers for personal professional development, to ensure that the state needs qualified personnel of a high level of professionalism and culture, capable of competently and responsibly performing their functions.

Department of Initial Professional Training of Police Officers

Police officers who are newly recruited to the Police undergo professional training in order to acquire special skills necessary to perform police powers, including appropriate special training on storage, carrying, use and application of firearms.

Professional training is conducted at the Institute of Postgraduate Education for different categories of employees who are sent for training by the personnel units of the National Police.

Department of Educational and Methodological Support

The Department of Educational and Methodological Support organizes, coordinates, controls and provides methodological support of the educational process for the proper training of specialists, performs managerial, organizational, coordinating, analytical and controlling functions in the organization of the educational process of the Institute of Postgraduate Education. 

Cycle of General Legal Disciplines

Lecturers of the Cycle of General Legal Disciplines provide teaching of the basics of legal knowledge, specialized legal training The cycle is aimed at studying the regulatory framework governing the activities of the National Police, with the aim of further implementation of the knowledge gained in practical activities.

Cycle of Special Disciplines

The Cycle of Special Disciplines provides initial professional training for police officers who are first recruited to the police as officers of pre-trial investigation bodies, criminal police, preventive activity units, special purpose police, and patrol police inspectors (police officers)
