Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs together with the Program Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Eastern Europe (UNODC) conducted a training "The role of law enforcement officers in drug prevention and prevention of HIV. Redirection scheme for prevention and treatment services." The participants of the training program were trainees of KhNUIA.
The trainers from the UN Program Office were speakers: Zhannat Kosmukhamedova, Head of the UN Program Office in Eastern Europe, Serhii Rudyi, UN Program Officer, and Andrii Saladovnikov, UN International Consultant. Oleksii Serdiuk, Deputy Head of the Research Laboratory for Combating Crime, spoke on behalf of the University.
During the training, the speakers raised such issues as the nature of addictive behavior, prevention and treatment of addiction, international standards of care for addicts, respect for human rights, overcoming stigma and discrimination, combating the illicit trafficking of new drugs. Practical situations related to combating drug trafficking were considered. Participants actively participated in interactive exercises, discussions, performed group and individual tasks. General of Police of the third rank Valerii Sokurenko congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the training and presented them with certificates.
