For the seventh year in a row, the war in eastern Ukraine continues, taking thousands of lives and further destroying human destinies. It is the duty of every
Ukrainian to remember all those who were forever snatched from the arms of their relatives by enemy shelling.
On August 28, during a camp gathering for cadets of the Sumy branch of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, a meeting was held with a participant in the
anti-terrorist operation Serhii Kozniienko. Serhii served more than 10 years in the service of the people of Ukraine and was awarded the medal "For Military Service
in Ukraine". He held various positions: from a security company policeman to the commander of the operative platoon of a special purpose public security police
company subordinated to the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Sumy region.
The ATO participant shared his memories of the tragic day - July 11, 2014 in Siversk, Donetsk region. "While the convoy was moving to perform combat missions, a company car of the combined detachment of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sumy region ran into a masked explosive device, as a result of which an explosion occurred. Everyone who was in the car was injured, and Oleksandr Tkachenko died."
After a moving speech, the cadets observed a moment of silence in honor of the patriotism, courage, loyalty and heroism of all those who laid down their lives for
the unity and independence of Ukraine.
During the patriotic event, which was held under the slogan "Memory of Heroes is Immortal", the cadets watched a documentary about Major of Police (posthumously) Oleksandr Tkachenko. For personal courage and heroism shown in defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine by the Decree of the President Oleksandr was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the 1st degree (posthumously). By the decision of the Sumy City Council he was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of the City of Sumy" (posthumously), as well as "Honorary Citizen of the City of Siversk" (posthumously) by the decision of the Siversk City Council.
