The event was attended by senior management and staff of the university, freshmen.
According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine, August 29 is the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine who died in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. On the same day, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the memory of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs who died in the line of duty, in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and during international peacekeeping operations is honored.
The audience observed a minute of silence in memory of the heroes-defenders and laid flowers to the monument to the fallen law enforcement officers and to the memorial plaque installed in the university museum in honor of Dmytro Pruglo, a university graduate who died in eastern Ukraine.
Rector of the University, General of Police of the third rank Valerii Sokurenko, addressing the audience, said: "Today we remember all those who died defending the sovereignty and integrity of our state, law and order. In the East, there is a war for our state to exist on the map of the world, for it to be independent, for the voice of young people who took to our streets and squares in 2014, choosing the European path of development, to be heard. And it is up to us to make it so. Therefore, we must study diligently, persistently, love our people and be ready to protect our statehood and our families. Today is a sad and exciting day, but in such moments we become stronger with you, and victory will surely be ours. Glory to Ukraine!"
The festivities ended with a vocal and choreographic composition "In Memory of Heroes ...." performed by the amateur art team of the university.
