Our goal is to have 2,000 community police officers by the end of next year. The Minister of Internal Affairs declared this on September 14 during the handover of 86 cars for law enforcement officers who will work in the newly formed united territorial communities.

«Policemen working in the certain places can return a sense of security to an ordinary citizen in a village, settlement or city. This project must live. I thank the international partners for handing over the cars and the representatives of local communities who care about their residents» said the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Denys Monastyrskyi said that the project «Community Police Officer» is one of the most successful, and citizens' trust in POCs is the highest among all members of the police profession.
Head of the National Police, Ihor Klymenko, said that 632 community officers were currently serving.
«Currently, we serve six million citizens living in more than four thousand settlements, and in Ukraine there are almost 30,000 of them. Our main goal is to respond to calls and messages in a timely manner, and this is possible when a police officer has a car. All cars are well equipped, from the first aid kit to the chainsaw, because no one knows what help will need to be provided» said Ihor
Klymenko.
He added that every police officer who arrives in the community soon should be provided with a job, a car and housing.
“A police officer lives and works in the community, so cooperation between local authorities, communities and the police is very important. I call on all leaders who are present here and who only plan to sign agreements with the National Police to work as a team“ the police chief said.
Ihor Klymenko also announced the beginning of a new stage - the presence of a police officer should be felt in every school.
“Community officers along with juvenile police will be present at the school. They need to know how many children live on the territory of UTC, how many educational institutions, and have full contact with the teaching staff“ he said.
According to Deputy Chief of the National Police Oleksandr Facevych, 130 more law enforcement officers are being trained today and will soon go to work in the united territorial communities.
“The issue of cooperation remains important, many communities came to meet us and bought cars for police officers who will work on the certain places. In addition, equipment will be serviced at the expense of local budgets,”Oleksandr Fatsevych said.
In turn, Head of the law enforcement department of the US Embassy in Ukraine Sarah Langenkamp thanked the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police and the heads of the UTC for cooperation and development of the project.
Zhytomyr Mayor Serhii Sukhomlyn said it was important for every resident of the community to feel safe. “We have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the National Police. For their part, they bought cars, equipped stations, and made repairs. The police conducted the training and today the police are already working in the community of Zhytomyr. Our next step is to expand the project. It should cover not only the private sector, but also other areas of the city“ he said.
Police officers and leaders of united territorial communities from nine oblasts, namely Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zakarpattia, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Luhansk, Donetsk, Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk, got the keys to Renault Duster company cars and pump-action rifles.
