Trainings for journalists on security and first aid were held at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. The event, organized jointly with the Kharkiv Press Club, was attended by 23 media representatives from different regions of Ukraine such as Sumy, Poltava, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The rector of the university, Police General of the third rank Valeii Sokurenko, and the first vice-rector, Police Colonel Dmytro Shvets, met with journalists. The rector stressed the importance of the work of media in objective and impartial coverage of events and stressed the importance of compliance with personal safety rules when working in difficult conditions. The rector noted that the university teachers will hold appropriate master classes that will help protect themselves in various situations, wished the participants new, useful knowledge and fruitful work.
The first training was dedicated to the topic "Safety of a journalist during mass events and in a combat zone." Classes were held at numerous training grounds of the university. Journalists learned the rules of working in emergency conditions, learned to use protective equipment (a bulletproof vest) and improvised means of self-defense, as well as received useful advice on how to behave and organize their work during mass riots or firing, and others.
The topic of the second training, which took place the next day, was "First aid in accordance with the standards of the international program BLS (basic life support)". Journalists received theoretical knowledge on the basic life support that meets the requirements of the international program BLS (basic life support), learned to stop bleeding and apply tourniquets, properly transport a person who can not move independently, provide first aid in cases of temporary disturbance or cessation of breathing, cardiovascular disorders, etc.
Classes were conducted by experienced university specialists, including masters of sports of Europe and the world, honored coaches of Ukraine, ISITAR coaches from various programs, participants of ATO / JOS and UN international operations, consultants in the office of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine, etc.
After the training, all participants received certificates and first aid kits for their offices.
Addressing the media, the first vice-rector of the university Police Colonel Dmytro Shvets, noted that an important component of the work of the National Police is interaction with the media. "While at the university," said the first vice-rector, "you saw our modern material and technical base, our opportunities for high-quality training of specialists for the National Police of Ukraine, and also experienced some stages of training of our cadets including fire, tactical and special, medical training."
The head of the Kharkiv Press Club Liudmyla Dolia thanked the university staff for the interesting, intensive and informative training, for the excellent trainers who conducted the classes and provided a lot of useful information, and expressed hope for further cooperation.
It should be noted that such trainings for journalists at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs have been held for several years and have become traditional ones.
