Vitalii Naida, the Head of the School of Scientific Leadership of the Faculty №1 of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, took part in an international online seminar from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation on the topic “Center vs. Periphery – The issue of further integration and how to overcome it”. Former European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Yan Fihel and General Delegate of the European Public Movement in France Zherom Kvere were the honorary guests of the online meeting and main speakers.
The discussion focused on the differences between the European center and the periphery. Although many countries in the center are in favor of further integration into the European Union, majority of smaller countries on the periphery emphasize the continued importance of the nation state. Participants had the opportunity to discuss what level of federalism benefits most Member States and what a further expansion of the EU's national policy responsibilities might look like. The issues discussed are extremely important for understanding the policy of European integration in Ukraine.
