As part of the events dedicated to the All-Ukrainian Law Week, students-consultants of the Legal Clinic “Legal Aid” of Sumy branch of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs became participants in the training “Legal Labyrinth: From Theory to Practice”.
Consultants of “Dovira” Law Clinics of Sumy National Agrarian University and Sumy State University were also involved in the planned event. The purpose of the training is to establish communications and develop contacts between students of different institutions of higher education in Sumy region.
In the first module of the training there was a presentation of the main activities of the free legal aid system, which should be owned by law students. Young people were informed about the receipt by citizens of both primary and secondary legal aid in various cities and district centers of Sumy region.
The coaches, Yana Kravets, a lawyer of the Regional Center at the Department of Free Legal Aid in Sumy Oblast, and Olena Bondar, a specialist at Sumy Local Center of the Department of Free Legal Aid, paid close attention to elements such as team building and self-presentation in a playful way to encourage students from different higher education institutions to communicate.
In the practical part of the training, its participants took part in the game “Life situation” in the question-answer format, as well as in the duel of team captains. The event ended with a situational game “Legal Advice”.
Legal Clinic students had the opportunity not only to learn the basics of interviewing, but also to immerse themselves in counseling the customer in a practical way. The coaches offered five case studies for citizens to contact the Centers and Legal Aid Offices. The cases covered the following categories: internally displaced persons, low-income families, combatants, persons with disabilities and alimony debtors. Students gained practical experience in consulting and solving problems.
