Sumy branch, Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs held a round table for first-year cadets within All-Ukrainian Law Week according to the integrated methodology "Modern Language Legislation and Language Policy in Ukraine".
The Humanities Department supports such scientific and educational activities, because it is during such classes that cadets acquire new knowledge on certain aspects of linguistics and improve their ability to communicate effectively in a different from classroom format, which will help them in further professional growth.
The speakers of the round table were the head of the investigative department, Vasylivka district administration № 1 MDNP in Zaporizhia region, police captain Yevheniia Dovzhenko and the head of the humanities department Valentyna Vasylenko.
During the event, cadets discussed amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language", which aims to fill the state status of the Ukrainian language with real meaning and support the Ukrainian language as one of the most important factors of Ukrainian identity, national security and state unity.
Future law enforcement officers expressed their attitude to language conflicts with various national minorities, analyzed the causes of this phenomenon and identified the peculiarities of the language of national minorities’ usage.
Reflecting on the language situation in Ukraine, Yevheniia Dovzhenko noted that the Ukraine's language policy should be stricter in terms of the functioning of the state language in education. The cadets expressed their belief that knowledge of the state language and improvement of the level of its proficiency is necessary for all citizens of Ukraine.
