2nd and 3rd year cadets of Faculty № 1 of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs Oleksandr Katrenko, Kristina Morgai, Daria Sulima, Victoria Kolesnyk and Yulia Shelest, who are members of the School of Scientific Leadership, together with the “Union of Search Detachments of Ukraine” took part in archeological excavations in Balakliia district of Kharkiv region.
The aim of the work is patriotic upbringing of young people in the spirit of respect for fallen defenders during the Second World War and identification of fallen soldiers who are still considered missing by their relatives, as well as reburial of their remains in mass graves or return to relatives.
Before the start of the work, the organization of searchers instructed the cadets on compliance with safety rules during field work. The remains of an unknown soldier were found during the search.
The cadets also helped organize the remains of previously found and already identified fighters, which will be handed over to relatives in late October. It should be noted that the identification of individual fighters became possible due to the cooperation of the Union of Search Detachments of Ukraine with the School of Scientific Leadership and the Department of Criminal Procedure and the organization of pre-trial investigation of the faculty №1. Through the cadets, the lecturers of the department advised the searchers about the possibility and features of DNA examination to identify the remains of fallen soldiers.
