Applicants for higher education of Sumy branch of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs met with soldiers-veterans of ATO/JFO, servicemen of unit 3051 of the National Guard of Ukraine with the participation of the Deputy Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration Viacheslav Pechenenko, the Deputy Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration Yevhen Balenko. The event took place on the eve of the Day of Defenders of Ukraine in the Local Museum in Sumy.
During his speech, Colonel Viacheslav Pechenenko, a participant in the military activities in eastern Ukraine, spoke about his military career as part of the first special-purpose volunteer formation within the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, “Dnipro-1”. He mentioned the participation in the heavy fighting of the battalion units near Ilovaisk, Mariupol, Marinka and the dead comrades, one of whom was Sergeant Roman Kharchenko, immortalized on the “Wall of Memory” in the museum. Viacheslav Pechenenko stressed the importance of national-patriotic education of youth, expressed confidence in victory over the enemy.
He handed over to the museum a unique publication – ‘The Book of Memory of Volunteers Who Died in the Struggle for Independence, Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity of Ukraine’, published by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.
The director of the museum Vladyslav Terentiev told about the history of the formation of the exposition dedicated to ATO/JFO, which includes the installation “Wall of Memory”, which commemorates 165 fallen soldiers biographically connected with Sumy region. He thanked the military and volunteers who donated to the museum unique artifacts and documents about the participants of ATO/JFO of Sumy region.
The participants of the event observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen soldiers of Ukraine.
The meeting continued with a lively dialogue between the military and the youth, and finally the applicants of the Sumy branch congratulated the defenders on the upcoming holiday.
The event was held in compliance with the established quarantine restrictions.
