Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs hosted an online scientific and practical conference “Peculiarities of the organization of cynological activities of law enforcement agencies in Ukraine”. The event was attended by the Rector of the University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, Police General of the Third Rank Valerii Sokurenko, First Vice-Rector, Doctor of Law, Associate Professor, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, Police Colonel Dmytro Shvets , Vice-Rector, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, Doctor of Law, Professor Leonid Mohilevskyi.

The topic of the conference aroused great interest in scientific circles and among practitioners who sent their abstracts for discussion and publication in the conference proceedings.

Valerii Sokurenko opened the scientific event, noting the relevance and importance of the issues to be considered during the conference, as with the help of service dogs reveals a large number of criminal offenses on the “hot trails”, they are used in official tasks aimed at combating crime, public safety and order, search for lost and hidden items, search of vehicles for explosives, drugs, etc.

Welcome speach was also made by the First Vice-Rector Dmytro Shvets, who noted that the conference was due to the urgency of the problems of training highly qualified specialists for canine units of territorial bodies of the National Police of Ukraine. Discussion of these issues is an integral part of the educational process and research activities in higher education institutions with specific learning conditions, as it allows law enforcement to enrich their arsenal of knowledge.

The plenary session was addressed by Deputy Head of the Department of Cynological Activity of the NPU, Lieutenant Colonel Yaroslav Krasokha, Head of the Cynological Center of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kharkiv region, Captain of Police Oleksii Saihanov, Associate Professor of Police and Public Administration of the Faculty №3 of KhNUIA, Doctor of Legal Sciences Vadym Seliukov who covered the problematic organizational and legal issues of the cynological units of the National Police of Ukraine.

Representatives of the National Academy of Internal Affairs, the National Academy of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine named after B. Khmelnytskyi, Territorially Separated Branch “Khmelnytska Branch of the Academy of State Penitentiary Service ”, leading scientists of KhNUIA, adjuncts of the Department of Educational and Scientific training, master’s students and cadets.

The scientific positions expressed during the conference will be the basis for further development and improvement of organizational and legal foundations of cynological activities of law enforcement agencies in Ukraine.
