On January 28, 1992, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the blue and yellow flag as the State Flag of Ukraine. Prior to this solemn date, the staff of the Department of Social and Humanitarian, Educational and Vocational Guidance of Kremenchuk Flight College, cadets and students symbolically put a huge Flag of Ukraine near the monument to Taras Shevchenko near the Dnieper embankment.

The combination of blue and yellow colors has been typical of Ukraine since ancient times. This is evidenced by the fact that Danylo Halytskyi, founding the city of Lviv in honor of his son Leo (first mentioned in 1256), presented its inhabitants with a coat of arms depicting a golden lion on a blue background.
