KhNUIA joined the meeting of representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, higher education institutions, the US Department of Energy Office of Radiological Safety and the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, which took place in Prague (Czech Republic). The event was attended by Serhii Marchyshyn, Deputy Head of the Educational and Methodological Department, Tetiana Matiushkova, Chief Researcher of the Research Laboratory on the Problems of Scientific Support of Law Enforcement Activities and the Quality of Personnel Training, Ihor Kovalov, Head of the Department of Tactical and Special Physical Training of the Faculty No. 3 of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, Mykola Borovyk, Associate Professor of the same department, Mykhailo Inshenokov, and Vadym Semenozhenko, a lecturer of the cycle of special disciplines at Sumy Center for Primary Professional Training "Police Academy" of Sumy branch of KhNUIA.
The event was held within the framework of the international technical assistance project "Improving the Protection and Response to Radiation Sources in Ukraine" and is related to the implementation of the developed training course "Police Response to Illegal Acts Related to Radiation Sources during their Use, Storage or Transportation" in the educational program and educational process of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for training specialists of the National Police of Ukraine who carry out response and protection measures for radiation sources.
The meeting was held in two stages. During the first stage, the Ukrainian delegation worked on the practical component of the training course. The moderators were Jeremy Jamison, Sorin Pubroschi, and Jerry Anderson, physical protection specialists from the Office of Radiological Safety of the National Nuclear Security Administration of the United States Department of Energy. During the second stage, representatives of higher education institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine - developers of the training course "Police Response to Illegal Acts Related to Radiation Sources during Their Use, Storage or Transportation", in particular Serhii Marchyshyn and Tetiana Matiushkova - presented the course developed by them in full to the rest of the Ukrainian delegation and conducted full training sessions.
The theoretical component of the course covered the following topics: "Concepts and Types of Radiation Sources"; "Regulatory and Legal Support of Police Response to Radiation Source Incidents"; "Radiation Threats"; "Radiation Protection Systems"; "Radiation Hazard for Response Forces"; "Facility Dossier"; "Facility Response Plan", etc. The practical part of the course included command and staff exercises, during which the algorithm of actions of the response forces to illegal actions related to radiation sources was practiced in certain situations.
