Members of the Equal Opportunities team of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs joined the regional presentation of the project "Let's Stand Together. Improving the Support System for Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and CRSV". 

 

The round table aimed to provide comprehensive information on working with victims of war-related sexual violence in Kharkiv region. Representatives of local authorities, the security sector, and public organizations attended the event. Speakers discussed the coordination of cooperation of all structures involved in the project; emphasized the importance of comprehensive support of the CRSV, work to eliminate stigmatization of sexual violence victims in society, their rehabilitation, etc.

"CRSV is qualified as a crime against humanity, it does not have a statute of limitations, and both the perpetrators and the military commanders should be punished," said Kateryna Levchenko, the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy. She also commented on the framework program between the Government of Ukraine and the UN. The planned project work will help to solve issues related to changes in legislation, development of the legal framework, advocacy for its implementation, collection of reparations, improvement of qualifications of specialists working in these areas, and improvement of the information campaign among the population.

"We are united by the people for whom we work," emphasized Tetyana Karbovska, co-founder and director of strategic development of the International Charitable Fund "Ukrainian Women's Fund", director of USAID projects. Tetyana Karbovska also mentioned strategic cooperation with regional Coalitions 1325.

Educational programs, notes, guides, and booklets for specialists involved in working with the population (internally displaced persons) already created both in Ukraine and abroad. A number of safe spaces that provide psychological and counseling assistance to women and girls affected by violence were opened. Qualified and experienced specialists are involved in this.

The project of IBF "Ukrainian Women's Fund" is actively implemented in partnership with the NGO "La Strada Ukraine" and the NGO Ukrainian Women Lawyers Association “JurFem” with the financial support of the European Union, is a pilot in Kharkiv region, and completes a cycle of 14 projects.
