The National Program Officer of the UNODC Program Office in Ukraine, Serhii RUDYI, conducted the second day of the training session for cadets. During the event, a wide range of issues were discussed, including: a comprehensive package of measures for the prevention of HIV, hepatitis, and tuberculosis among people who inject drugs; the role of law enforcement in overdose situations; the specifics of law enforcement and the use of discretionary powers, distractions, and ethical frameworks; the creation of cross-sectoral partnerships for more effective work with key populations in order to strengthen the national response to HIV; the creation of an institutional environment in law enforcement agencies that will contribute to strengthening their role in combating HIV.

Over two days, Serhii RUDYI combined informative lectures with practical exercises, such as ice-breaking exercises, superficial examinations of detainees, and more. These were conducted to create a positive atmosphere and encourage participants to actively demonstrate their knowledge and skills, as well as to develop skills for establishing and maintaining effective communication and interaction with the relevant category of persons. The training participants mastered skills in dealing with HIV-infected individuals who use injection drugs, including in situations of overdose, as well as skills in creating cross-sectoral partnerships to work with key population groups.

After completing the training modules, the participants successfully passed the post-training test and received certificates based on the results.

Concluding the event, Serhii RUDYI noted the high level of preparation and interest of the cadets in the training topics. First Vice-Rector Viktor VASYLENKO summed up the event and expressed his sincere gratitude to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, represented by Serhii RUDYI, a specialist on HIV and drug addiction, for the relevant, informative information and interactive format of the training. Head of the International Cooperation Department Tetiana MATIUSHKOVA expressed her hope for further fruitful cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. https://univd.edu.ua/uk/news/24308
