The festive events dedicated to the Day of Europe took place on Freedom Square. Representatives of the Kharkov National University of Internal Affairs, led by the rector, General of Police of the third rank Valerii Sokurenko, took part in them. The solemn ceremony began with the raising of the State Flag of Ukraine and the Flag of the European Union. Addressing the Kharkiv citizens, the chairman of the Kharkiv regional state administration Yuliia Svetlichnaia noted that the decision of the European Parliament to grant Ukraine''s visa-free regime, which was adopted in April 2017, was the undoubted success of Ukrainian diplomacy and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko personally. "This is a landmark event. This is the first, but very important step in Ukraine''s integration into the European community, "the regional governor emphasized.

The event ended with a solemn march of the units of the guard of honor of the Kharkov garrison, in which the ceremonial squad section of the KNUVS and the drummers' unit took part.

It is to be recalled, that since May 11, in Kharkov and the Kharkiv region was held a series of events dedicated to the Day of Europe.
