The Institute for Cyber Warfare Research, represented by Board Chair Serhii Demediuk and expert in risk-oriented security approaches Oleksandr Korystin, donated unique publications to the library collection: the monograph "OSINT: Theory and Methodology" and the textbook "OSINT: Tools and Methods." Vice-Rector of KhNUIA Serhii Bortnyk contributed to the preparation of individual sections of the publications.
The publications are addressed to security and defense sector specialists, law enforcement officers, lawyers, analysts, researchers, lecturer, and higher education students – all those building Ukraine's professional, ethical, and technologically mature OSINT ecosystem.
Monograph "OSINT: Theory and Methodology" offers a comprehensive vision of open-source intelligence as a strategic capability of the state and a tool for responding to digital age challenges. It covers the role of OSINT in national security systems, cyber protection, law enforcement activities, and public initiatives. Special attention is given to domestic innovations, including semantic networking, artificial intelligence applications, tools for early detection of information operations, situational awareness systems, and digital footprint analysis. The practical-legal section focuses on OSINT use in pre-trial investigations.
The textbook "OSINT: Tools and Methods" serves as a practical continuation of the monograph, aimed at developing open-source analyst competencies. It covers operational security, anonymity, workspace setup, and countering cyber risks. The publication provides a systematic overview of modern toolkits – frameworks, retrieval systems, social networks, web archives, WHOIS, state registries, virtual currencies, metadata, photo and video analysis, face identification, mobile apps and Telegram bots, AI technologies for data collection, Python environments, visualization, and Maltego. A separate section is devoted to the practical application of AI and Python. The final sections address documenting war crimes and procedural mechanisms for collecting electronic evidence.
The new acquisitions significantly expand KhNUIA library information resources in OSINT and will serve as substantial foundation for the university community educational, research, and practical activities. https://univd.edu.ua/uk/news/26337
