The Department of Sociology and Psychology of the ERI No. 5, within the framework of the activities of the scientific circle ‘Psyche’, held another Speaking Club event dedicated to the topical issue of media literacy and countering manipulation in the information space. The Head of the scientific circle is Associate Professor of the Department, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor Yana Ponomarenko.

The event is being held for the third time and is gaining steady popularity among students who are interested in developing foreign language communication skills and deepening their professional knowledge in the field of social and psychological issues.

The guest speaker at the meeting was Krystina Yakovlieva (Birmingham, England, UK), who presented modern approaches to the development of critical thinking, recognition of information manipulation, and the formation of safe and responsible behaviour on social networks.

During the Speaking Club, the participants discussed the essence of media literacy, mechanisms of manipulation in the information space, psychological consequences of digital communication, principles of safe behaviour on social networks, and analysed practical cases of responding to cyberbullying and disinformation.

The class was conducted in English, which gave students the opportunity to actively practice their foreign language communication skills, participate in discussions and analyze situations. This format of classes significantly motivates students to learn foreign languages, develop academic mobility and integrate into the international educational space.

The Department of Sociology and Psychology consistently supports initiatives aimed at internationalising the educational process, developing language competence and shaping the media culture of future specialists in the social and behavioural sphere. https://univd.edu.ua/uk/news/26463
