The event was organized by the Office of the Special Representative and Co-ordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR).
OSCE Special Representative and Co-ordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings Valiant Richey addressed an introductory speech to the participants. He emphasized the urgency of issues related to the trafficking of women and girls as a form of gender-based violence. The main speakers were Swedish Ambassador at Large for Combating Trafficking in Persons Per-Anders Sunesson; Executive Director of Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW) Taina Bien-Aime; Founder and CEO of Footprint to Freedom and Survivor Leader Malaika Oringo; Founder and CEO of Youth Against Slavery Movement Racha Haffar. Tatiana Kotlyarenko, OSCE/ODIHR Adviser on Anti-Trafficking Issues moderated the event.
During the event, speakers focused on the problem of women and girls trafficking as a form of gender-based violence, revealed the preconditions of its emergence, outlined trends in human trafficking during the COVID-19 pandemic, raised the issue of sexual exploitation as the main factor of women and girls trafficking, emphasized the importance of raising awareness of young people about this problem, ways and methods by which the state or public organizations can influence this problem solving.
Representatives of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs and its structural units - Sumy Branch and Kremenchuk Flight College took part in the discussion.
