On the eve of the celebration of the Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language and on the occasion of the opening of the XI Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Competition and
the XXI Petro Jacyk International Ukrainian Language Competition the round table meeting "Language legislation and Language Policy in Ukraine".in the format of Zoom-conference took place in Sumy branch of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs". Valentina Vasylenko, Professor of the Department of Humanities, was the speaker of the event.

During the round table, applicants for higher education discussed the essence and contradictions of the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State
Language" stressed the importance of the position of language ombudsman and identified aspects of world experience of state language policy.
The moderator of the event, Al Khatatneh Maya, reflecting on the language situation in Ukraine, said that Ukraine's language policy should be tougher in terms of the functioning of the state language in education, and students expressed the belief that knowledge of the state language and improving it is necessary for all Ukrainian citizens
The purpose of the meeting was not only to discuss the language policy of the state, but also to reveal the organizational and oratory skills of students.
The educational event left positive impressions on applicants for higher education and a lot of new useful information.
