Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs hosted a regular webinar on “International Police Cooperation. Europol” from the European Union Advisory Mission Field Office in Kharkiv. The speakers were: Liviu Velicea (Romania), Adviser / Trainer on Community Policing, and Arsenijs Mihejevs (Latvia), Planning and Reporting Officer.
The following topics were discussed during the event: “Types and purpose of law enforcement cooperation between the EU Member States”; “What Europol is and the functions performed by this organization”; “Europol's achievements, namely “Operation ARCHIMED””. In addition, the speakers outlined the differences between organizations such as Europol and Interpol, spoke about aspects of international cooperation and the impact of globalization and increasing mobility of people on the commitment of crimes by transnational organized groups, about international platforms and specialized law enforcement organizations for the prevention and fight against transnational crimes, about the types of legal cooperation in the EU, ways to implement it and the European procedure for crimes investigation.
Furthermore, the speakers shared their own experience of cooperation with international law enforcement organizations and highlighted successful examples of cooperation between EU countries. During the webinar, participants actively commented and asked questions, to which they received informative answers.
