The Department of Foreign Languages of Faculty №1 held a debate in English "STOP Bullying!", that was organized by the Department of International Cooperation of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs with the support of the European Union Advisory Mission Field Office in Kharkiv.
The event was dedicated to the annual World Action "16 days against violence". Third-year cadets of faculty №2 were its participants. Debates were organised by a Senior Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages Nataliia Krasnova. The teacher of the same department Hanna Babak acted as a moderator.
The judges at the debates were the representatives of the EUAM: Senior Advisor on General Policing Tuomo Korhonen (Finland), Advisor/Trainer on Community Policing Liviu Velicea (Romania), Advisor/Trainer on Community PolicingYurii Mikhalkov (Republic of Bulgaria), Advisor on Public Order Thomas Paulsson (Sweden), Trainer Vira Kovalenko, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages Olena Orlova and Head of the Department of International Cooperation Olena Ustymenko.
Team №1 consisted of the cadets Maksym Kurasov, Yurii Reskalenko and Ruslan Chubenko, team №2 consisted of Danylo Hulak, Kyrylo Kudin and Vlasta Nechaieva. The team members acted as the speaker, the witness and the debater. The roles of “the affirmative” team or “the opposition” team were determined by drawing lots. The debates had strict rules and regulations and the teams were to defend opposing views. The participants argued on the issues “Bullying is not a problem. Kids must pass through certain emotional difficulties to become “stronger”, “Should teachers be given more powers in punishment at school?”, “Psychological problems in families are backgrounds that lead to bullying that is what we should take into account while speaking about bullying at schools”.
The jury unanimously recognized team №1 as the winner of the debate and the best speaker Kyrylo Kudin (the representative of team №2). All the participants of the debates received valuable gifts the winners were awarded diplomas.
