Every year on December 14 we celebrate the Day of Honoring the Participants of the Liquidation of the Consequences of Chernobyl Disaster at Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station. The construction of a protective sarcophagus over the destroyed fourth power unit was completed this day in 1986.
It is worth reminding that in 1994 public organizations of Chernobyl victims of Ukraine addressed with the letter to heads of the state in which they offered to establish the Day of Honoring the Participants of the Liquidation of the Consequences of Chernobyl Disaster. At that time, no official decision was made, but the liquidators began to celebrate this date on their own. Later this day was officially approved. The Day of Honoring the Participants of the Liquidation of the Consequences of Chernobyl Disaster was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine on November 10, 2006, which is celebrated annually on December 14.
