Today, on January 16, Ukraine celebrates the Memorial Day of the “cyborgs” who defended the Donetsk airport from May 26, 2014 to January 22, 2015. The enemy itself impressed by the fact that our soldiers were able to defend the airport structures for so long and steadily, called the unconquered Ukrainians “cyborgs”. “Cyborgs survived, concrete did not stand” is a phrase that went down in history along with the feat of Ukrainian fighters. Not only its defenders but also medics and volunteers took part in the defense of the facility.

The Director of Kremenchuk Flight College of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs Ruslan Yakovlev, the First Deputy Vadym Peshkov and Deputy Director of the College on Aviation Security Serhii Deviatchenko honored the memory of servicemen and volunteers who defended Donetsk airport for 242 days, as well as all the dead on the Alley of Heroes at Svishtov Cemetery. College officials laid flowers at the memorial and observed a minute of silence.
