Director of the Museum of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs Andrii Prokhorov with the participation of Associate Professor of Department of Police Activity and Public Administration Vadym Seliukov held a museum online lecture on "History of training police cynologists in Kharkiv region" for the cadets of the faculty № 3. The cadets learned that the training of police cynologists in the Kharkiv region has a long tradition, which began more than a hundred years ago.
During the slide show, rare materials collected on the Internet, the State Archives of Kharkiv region, KhNSL named after V.H. Korolenko and from the museum's own collection. The illustrations of the rare magazine "Life and Court" from 1914 were among the latter. A number of photographs demonstrate the development of domestic cynology in the early twentieth century. And the leading role of Volodymyr Lebediev, the head of the investigative police of the Russian Empire of that time. He widely applied the experience of such Western European countries as Belgium, Germany, England and tried to spread it in professional circles. Particular attention was paid to the leadership of Kharkiv and the province police, which developed this new direction of policing.
The legendary Doberman Pinscher nicknamed "Trief" and his "Kharkiv colleagues", the use of which led to a significant reduction in the criminogenic situation in the province was also mentioned. As well as the report of the Kharkiv police department chief for 1911, which provides information on some characteristics of police dogs.
The experience gained then became the basis for the development of police cynology in the Soviet era and remains interesting today. At the end of the meeting, Vadym Seliukov stressed the importance of historical knowledge for the future young change of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is being prepared by Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.
