The events dedicated to the deeds of heroes, who died in battle on 29 January 1918 at Kruty railway station, 130 kilometers from Kyiv took place at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. The first Ukrainian youth (junker) school named after B. Khmelnytskyi in the composition of four hundred cadets and officers and the first hundred of the newly created volunteer Subordinate Student Sich Riflemen's Tent defended the young Ukrainian People's Republic against the 4,000 Bilshovyk detachment of Petrograd and Moscow Red Guards.

Valerii Sokurenko, Rector of the University, Police General of the 3-rd rank, Oleksandr Bandurka, the First Rector of the University, Police Colonel-General, Serhii Bortnyk, Mykhailo Burdin, Leonid Mohilevskyi, Anatolii Klochko, Vice-Rectors, Deans of the Faculties, Heads of the Structural Units, cadets and students participated in the event. On the large training yard of the University, they observed a minute of silence in memory of the heroes, who gave their lives for a free and independent Ukraine. Valerii Sokurenko noted, that we should all remember the deeds of our compatriots, who gave the most precious thing - their lives - for Ukraine to be a free and independent state. Addressing the cadets, he stressed: “You put on shoulder straps, took the Oath of Allegiance to the Ukrainian people, be worthy of the memory of patriots and those law enforcement officers who died for our land, be true warriors, strong and responsible, learn and serve so that people will respect you and the Lord God protect! Glory to Ukraine!”

Oleksandr Bandurka stressed: “The deed of your peers during the Ukrainian revolution was historically significant. It demonstrated the spirit of the Ukrainian people, their strength and love of freedom. It was a high manifestation of the patriotism of the young Ukrainian state, which was born during the Civil War. We remember to appreciate and honor that experience. Today your patriotism must be manifested in good education, strict discipline, observance of the Constitution, loyalty to the Oath, friendship, collectivism, and devotion to the cause you have chosen. You are happy people because you study at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. Your best years are ahead, and the glory hour will be high and bright. I want to wish you health, well-being, harmony and peace, that you will use your knowledge and professional skills only for peaceful purposes!”

The event ended with a musical composition “Memory of Kruty Heroes”, which was performed by participants of amateur art of the University - dance and choir groups.
