Celebrations dedicated to the anniversary of the outstanding Ukrainian woman took place at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs in the cultural and educational center of Faculty № 2. Lesia Ukrainka (Larysa Petrivna Kosach) was born on 25 February, 150 years ago. Without exaggeration, she is one of the most prominent figures in the history of Ukrainian culture, a mystical writer, intellectual, word-maker, fragile in body but surprisingly strong in spirit, a talented pianist, a marine painter kissed by God.
The event was attended by the Rector of the University Valerii Sokurenko, Vice-Rectors Serhii Bortnyk, Anatolii Klochko, deans of Faculties, representatives of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, cadets and university students. Opening the event, the Rector noted that the University pays much attention to national-patriotic and cultural education of youth: "Our University has the status of a national one and it obliges us a lot. We must not only teach young people the future profession, but also educate a conscious citizen of our state".
Attendees watched a musical and literary composition prepared by employees, cadets and students of the University. They read poems, sang songs made up by the poetic works of the writer set to music, performed dance compositions. The participants of the event also got acquainted with the exhibits of the thematic exhibition "Lesia Ukrainka: Fate, Epoch, Creativity". Dean of the Faculty № 2 Konstantin Garbuzyuk thanked the leadership of the University for their assistance in building and equipping the cultural and educational center and encouraged the audience to join the formation and replenishment of exhibitions dedicated to prominent figures of culture and art of Ukraine.
The importance of the figure of Lesia Ukrainka was noted; it was stressed that all her life she professed European values - tolerance, peace, gender and ethnic equality and left behind a huge literary heritage, which has had a profound effect on Ukrainian and international cultural discourse to this day.
