An important issue in resisting the occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopil is the protection of historical truth, in particular, regarding the participation of Ukrainians in the Crimean or Eastern War of 1853-1856. The museum lecture "Cossacks-Plastuns and other Ukrainian heroes of the Crimean war of 1853-1856" is devoted to this, and was held by the director of the museum of KhNUIA Andrii Prokhorov for cadets and students of all faculties.
The slide show featured portraits of famous Ukrainian heroes of that war, such as Vinnytsia-born sailor Kishka or Admiral Nakhimov, who had Cossack roots, as well as illustrations of little-known historical facts. Thus, during the siege of Sevastopil, a kind of reconnaissance and assault groups formed of Ukrainian Cossacks-Plastuns were especially noted. It is also mentioned that 110 years ago a movement of national scout organizations was founded, which was named "Plast" in memory of the famous ancestors of the Cossacks.
The study of history, deprived of many years of mythologizing of the past, returns for us the forgotten pages of national history and contributes to the restoration of national military traditions and patriotism.
