Inna Savina and Alona Ryndych, Specialists of the Department of International Cooperation of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, together with Andrii Voitsikhovskyi, Professor of the Department of Constitutional and International Law of the Faculty No. 4, conducted an introductory session dedicated to the NATO Foundation Day, which is celebrated on 4 April, for 2nd-year cadets of the Faculty No. 1.
On this day in 1949, in Washington, representatives of 12 countries signed the North Atlantic Treaty, which became a basis for the foundation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization - an international military and political organization.
Issues related to the history of the NATO foundation, the main purpose, role, and tasks of the Alliance, North Atlantic Treaty member countries were discussed during the event. The structure of the organization and its budgeting were revealed. The speakers paid considerable attention to the extensive system of partnerships and the right of states to secede from the Alliance, the history of the special partnership between Ukraine and NATO, as well as the main areas of cooperation.
