The annual debate tournament for “The Rector’s cup” of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs was held among cadets and students. Representatives of the Faculties No. No 1 – 4 and 6 became the participants of the event. The event was opened by Oksana Tsukan, Assistant to the Rector on Gender Issues. She stressed the importance of such activities and the attraction of the young people.
The tournament consisted of two selective rounds, semi-final and final, whereby each team had the opportunity to demonstrate their professional knowledge and oratorical skills. The board of justices included Dmytro Shcherbyna, Viktoriia Fediai, Liubov Kruta and Kateryna Isaieva, who were experienced debaters, trainers of Debates Federation of Ukraine, frequent winners of All-Ukrainian and international debate tournaments. Among the topics of discussion were gender equity, crime prevention, and non-discrimination.
The tournament was held in the British format of parliamentary debates. The participants were tied for time for preparation. The speech was supposed to be maximally convincing because judges estimated not the attitude, but persuasiveness of the speech, the ability to provide arguments and counterarguments, and analyze the opponent’s speech.
According to the results of speeches, first place was taken by the team of the Faculty No. 4 Amina Holovnia and Illia Kazmirchuk, the following teams became the finalists of the tournament: Daryna Zavrichko and Vlasta Nechaieva from the Faculty No. 2, Nikolia Pylypenko and Andrii Reznichenko from the Faculty No. 4 Liudmyla Nuzhna and Olha Shmulii from the Faculty No. 6. Illia Bakulin, student of the Faculty No. 6 became the top speaker of the tournament.
Valerii Sokurenko, the Rector of the university, Police General of the 3-rd rank presented the awards to the winners and wished all participants inspiration and further success.
