Annually to the Holodomor Remembrance Day in Ukraine, Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs joins the all-Ukrainian “Light up a candle of Remembrance” action – traditionally, a minute of silence is commemorated in memory of Ukrainians killed during the genocide and a lighted candle is installed at the Memorial of Holodomor victims in Kharkiv.

On November 27, Kremenchuk Flight College, like the rest of the country, commemorates the victims of the Holodomor with a minute of silence during the all-Ukrainian "Light a Candle" action.

Cadets, students and employees of Sumy branch of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs took part in the city requiem-meeting to the Holodomor Remembrance Day in Ukraine. Representatives of Sumy branch together with the city and region management laid down flowers and installed lamps at the monument to the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933.

Traditionally, on Holodomor Remembrance Day, the memory of those killed during the genocide of the Ukrainian people is commemorated with a moment of silence and a lighted candle is placed on the windowsill both in Ukraine and in many other countries.

Every year, on the fourth Saturday of November, millions of victims of the Holodomor are commemorated in Ukraine. In the twentieth century, Ukrainians experienced them three times. The famine of 1932–1933 was the largest in terms of human casualties. In 1929–1932, a “comprehensive” collectivization was carried out in Ukraine, which meant the forcible unification of peasant farms and the elimination of the wealthy peasantry (the kulaks).

This year in Ukraine marks the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the mass artificial famine of 1921-1923 and the 75th anniversary of the mass artificial famine of 1946-1947 in Ukraine. Also this year marks 15 years since the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide against the Ukrainian people was consolidated by the Law of Ukraine.

Round table was held with the assistance of the Sumy regional Universal Scientific Library with the participation of the Head Deputy of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance (Kyiv), historians and archivists.

The staff of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Educational and Vocational Guidance of Kremenchuk Flight College of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs together with cadets and students honored the memory of the victims of the Holodomor.

The Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines organized video lectures for representatives of all faculties of the university with the participation of a leading employee of the Kharkiv Historical Museum. M.F. Sumtsov, Candidate of Historical Sciences Serhii Deineko.
