On the eve of the International Native Language Day, which is celebrated by the world community on February 21, a round table "Language is a precious treasure of the people" was held within the scientific circle of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities at the faculty № 6 senior teachers Mykhailo Ovchinnikov and Natalia Kobylko. At the beginning of the event Natalia Kobylko told about the tragic history of the holiday, UNESCO's decision to support the language as a sign of a person's cultural affiliation, focused on the threat of extinction of certain languages and their dialects. The teacher also stressed that there are two holidays in honor of the native language in Ukraine - February 21 and November 9. Students watched a video about
interesting facts about the history of the Ukrainian language and listened to the reports of the members of the scientific circle, prepared under the guidance of Mykhailo Ovchynnikov. The messages covered topical issues of lexicography; formation and development of legal vocabulary; youth slang as an integral part of student life.
The participants concluded that drawing the international community's attention to the language issue is an important step towards recognizing the need to protect cultural diversity, and that learning foreign languages and multilingualism are the keys to mutual understanding and respect.
