Platon Mozgovyi, Mykyta Belevtsov, Viktoriia Kolesnyk and Yulia Shelest, participants of the School of Scientific Leadership of the Faculty No 1 of KhNUIA, together with the Union of Search Detachments of Ukraine, took part in archeological excavations in Balakliia district of Kharkiv region.
The purpose of the search teams of Ukraine is to identify the fallen soldiers during the Second World War, who are still considered missing, and their subsequent burial in mass graves.
Prior to the start of the work, the search team conducted safety briefings during the field work. The cadets had to dig up a so-called "archeological table" on which they cleared the remains of Red Army soldiers with their personal belongings. In one day, they managed to pick up the remains of three soldiers who had personal belongings with them: knives, a mug, a bowl with the soldier's initials, a spoon, a cigarette case, etc. Unfortunately, no death medallions were found to establish the names of the dead. The remains of unknown fighters found during field searches will be buried in a mass grave.
