Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs hosted events to mark the completion of a training seminar "Basis of special tactics for special police units based on the Scandinavian model for ensuring public safety and order during peaceful assemblies and other mass events". The event was attended by the Rector of the University, Police General of the Third Rank Valerii Sokurenko, First Vice-Rector of the University, Police Colonel Dmytro Shvets, Vice-Rector of the University Police Colonel Serhii Bortnyk, Head of the Specialized Team of European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine (EUAM) Fernando Magro Moros, representatives of the United Nations Office for Project Services in Ukraine, Serhii Shchebetun, Commander of the Special Purpose Regiment of the MDNP in Kharkiv region, Coaches of Special Purpose Police Units of the Main Department of the National Police in Kharkiv region.

For two weeks, 74 special police units of the MDNP in Kharkiv region improved their theoretical knowledge and practical skills of public safety and order, got acquainted with the concept of public order in European countries, the command structure of public security units, studied crowd psychology and management.

After handing over the certificates, the Rector of the university Valerii Sokurenko addressed the police of the special unit: “During the training course you gained international experience, developed an algorithm of actions, improved theoretical knowledge and practical skills of public safety and order according to the Scandinavian model. We are grateful to the colleagues of the European Union Advisory Mission, the Spanish coaches, who shared their knowledge, skills and European experience that will be needed in your future service. We reckon on you, on your professionalism, on your attitude to the result. I wish you good health, inspiration and new achievements. Serve so that people will respect you and God will protect you!”

Fernando Magro Moros, the Head of the Specialized Team of European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine, expressed confidence that the Ukrainian police officers who will start working on the new model will become a model for their colleagues: “You are part of a special unit and, of course, also our family. I am very proud of your achievements during this training. I am grateful to the Ukrainian coaches for their help in conducting the classes and I wish them success not only in their careers, but also in their personal lives”.

Serhii Shchebetun, Lieutenant Colonel, commander of the MDNP Special Purpose Regiment in Kharkiv region, said that “It is very important that the Special Forces officers know and will be able to apply the Scandinavian system, the only tactics in ensuring public safety and order during peaceful mass events”. On behalf of the leadership of the MDNP in Kharkiv region, Serhii Shchebetun thanked the international partners, the management of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs for conducting trainings that bring its positive results.

Right after the event, the guests got acquainted with the material and technical base of the university, inspected the territory, visited the training grounds, the museum.
