Today, November 22, marks the 27th anniversary of the granting of university status to Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. The university staff celebrated this date with solemn events. Permanent and variable personnel, the management of the university, the people's deputies of Ukraine and honored guests lined up on the large square.

Congratulating the audience on the anniversary, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement, People's Deputy of Ukraine Serhii Ionushas noted that the university owes its leadership to the inspired work of the team – rectors, research and academic staff, commanders, graduates. He wished to continue working for the development of Ukraine as a sovereign, democratic, legal state.

Oleksandr Bakumov, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement, a People's Deputy of Ukraine, who worked as a Vice-Rector of the University before being elected as a People's Deputy, wished everyone to look with confidence at tomorrow. “Your university is powerful and basic, the best in the system of universities with specific learning conditions,” said Oleksandr Bakumov, addressing the cadets. – The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine makes a lot of efforts to develop institutions that are part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. All the conditions have been created for you to have a good police service and acquire new knowledge and skills. I'm sure you have a great future. The best lecturers work with you”.

The first Rector of the university, Police Colonel General Oleksandr Bandurka, reminded the audience how the university was created and developed, the primary and most important task of which was to train personnel for the law enforcement system of Ukraine. “As a parent is happy about a child who grows up, develops, acquires knowledge and experience, so I am happy what our university is today, and for this I sincerely thank my colleagues in the Rector's office – Serhii Husarov, Dmytro Shvets, the current  Rector Valerii Sokurenko for tireless and persistent work, for a great contribution to the development of higher education. Let's not ask “What has Ukraine done for me?”, Let's better ask each of us: “What have I done for Ukraine?”. He wished everyone goodness, peace and harmony.

Rector of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, Police General of the Third Rank Valerii Sokurenko wished the staff of the university inspiration in training and service. Addressing the cadets, he noted that “The university becomes a home for the time of study and a home for life. Support each other and after graduation, do not lose touch! We are proud of our graduates. Among them are many famous and respected people. Take an example from them! You have someone to emulate! Learn and serve so that people will respect you and God will protect you!”

The event was also attended by members of the Committee on Law Enforcement, People's Deputies of Ukraine: Deputy Chairmen of the Committee Hryhorii Mamka and Viacheslav Medianyk, Chairman of the Subcommittee Mykola Halushko, Committee Members Oleksandr Kunytskyi and Oleksandra Ustinova, as well as rectors of previous years as Police Colonel General Oleksandr Bandurka and Serhii Husarov, the first Vice-Rector of the university, Police Colonel Dmytro Shvets, Vice-Rectors: Police Colonel Serhii Bortnyk, Mykhailo Burdin, Leonid Mohilevskyi, Anatolii Klochko.

The Rector of the university presented awards to the employees of the university for many years of conscientious work and exemplary performance of official duties.
