The annual debate tournament "Rector's Cup" of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs among cadets and students took place. The event was held in the parliamentary debates format on the Zoom platform. The event was opened by the Rector of the university, Police General of the Third Rank Valerii Sokurenko. He underscored the importance of holding such events for young people at the university: "It is debates that help civil society to develop, teach to make rational, balanced decisions, and also form the skills of reasoned persuasion," the Rector emphasized.

Nataliya Rastorguyeva, head of the Debate Club of KhNUIA, presented the format and basic rules of the Debate Tournament, which consisted of two qualifying rounds and a final, during which each team had the opportunity to demonstrate their professional knowledge and public speaking skills. The panel of judges included experienced debaters, coaches of the Debating Federation of Ukraine, and multiple winners of All-Ukrainian and International debate tournaments.

Participants were limited in time for preparation. The speech had to be as convincing as possible, because the judges evaluated not the position itself, but the persuasiveness of the speech, the ability to present arguments and counterarguments, and analyse the opponent's speech.
