At the initiative of the Department of Education and Science of Kharkiv Regional State (Military) Administration, the regional stage of the XVI Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Competition for Pupils and Students was held. The purpose of the event is to identify creatively gifted young people, develop their potential, foster respect for the Ukrainian language and cultural traditions, and improve the level of language education.
Twenty-two students from various higher education institutions in Kharkiv region took part in the competition. The competitions were held in three categories: "humanitarian specialties", "non-humanitarian specialties" and "cadets".
The chair of the jury, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Olena Varenikova, familiarised the participants with the conditions of the competition, the rules and requirements for the completion of the works, drawing attention to compliance with language norms and formatting rules. After reviewing the competition entries, the jury, which included philology lecturers from higher education institutions of Kharkiv, selected the winners.
In the category ‘Non-humanities specialities’, II place went to Veronika Shmalko, a student of the Educational and Research Institute No. 5. Her research supervisor is Nataliia Kobylko, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Humanities and Ukrainian Studies.
