Europe unites to save digital heritage. The COST Steering Committee in Brussels has approved the four-year COST Action initiative "European Media and Born-Digital Art Conservation and Knowledge Network" (EMBARK), which will run until October 15, 2029.
Artists work with video, sound, software, and networking environments, creating works that are closely related to technological development. Today, much of this heritage is threatened with extinction due to a lack of specialized expertise, infrastructure and coherent conservation approaches.
The EMBARK project brings together more than 100 participants from more than 25 countries and continues to grow. The network includes researchers, digital preservation specialists, IT experts, curators, lawyers and artists. The project is funded by an EU grant of about €600,000 and includes conferences, training schools and open competitions.
Ukraine is represented at EMBARK by the Research Laboratory on Information Technology and Combating Crime in Cyberspace of the Educational and Research Institute No. 4 (training of specialists in information and analytical support and cybersecurity of the National Police of Ukraine) of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. The Ukrainian team focuses on analyzing the legal and technological challenges of preserving software-oriented and digital works.
